Getting started

I installed Essentials but I can't find it.

Open Safari → Settings → Extensions and tick the box next to Essentials. The icon appears in your toolbar — if it doesn't, right-click the toolbar → Customize Toolbar… and drag it in.

How do I add a site?

Three ways:

How do I rename, edit, or remove an essential?

FAQ

Is there an iPhone or iPad version?

Not yet. Safari on iOS doesn't give extensions enough surface area to do this well. We're watching every WWDC for it. iCloud sync will work the day we ship.

What versions of macOS and Safari are supported?

Essentials requires macOS 14+ · Safari 17+. We test on the latest two majors.

Can I export my essentials?

Yes — open Essentials Settings → Sync tab → Export JSON… under Manual. You get a JSON file you can re-import on another Mac or keep as a backup.

I'm seeing the wrong favicon for a site.

Essentials fetches the favicon once when you add an essential. If a site later changes its icon, the simplest fix is to delete the essential and add it again. Some sites also serve different icons to different browsers; the one we see first wins.

Sync isn't working on my second Mac.

Check the Sync tab in Essentials Settings on both Macs. iCloud sync is one toggle for the whole app, not per space. Both Macs need to be signed into the same Apple ID with iCloud Drive enabled, and the toggle has to be on. After enabling, sync usually settles within 30 seconds.

Can I use Essentials in Chrome / Arc / Firefox?

Today, Safari only — that's where it can integrate the deepest. We may consider a Chromium build if there's enough demand.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com and pick the Essentials purchase. We'll honor any refund Apple grants.
